This class will be Thursday, November 10 at 9 a.m. at the Fiber Frolic Retreat
Let's make a kitted memory. Join me to cast on my favorite accessory! A cowl that you can knit in a retreat weekend. This little project has a big impact. Worked SEAMLESSLY from the top down, it knits up quickly (like any good cowl should), but wears like a hassle-free shawl. Unlike traditional tube cowls that rumple into a pile of knitting around your neck, this shawl-shaped construction lets your knitting shine by creating a triangular front and shortened back. The shape is wonderful, wearable and just plain fun to knit. I will get you started in class and give you the know-how to complete your cowl over the rest of the retreat weekend.
Skill Level: Intermediate Knitters. Knitters need to be able to cast on, knit and bind off, no garment experience is required. This is also suitable for more experienced knitters who want to hone their skills for this type of pattern.
Class time: 3 hours
Class size: maximum 15
In this class we will:
1. Choose yarn. This cowl pattern was written to be worked in either fingering, DK or worsted weight yarn.
2. Learn a garter tab cast on. We will learn a garter tab cast on to set up the cowl to create a clean upper edge.
3. Learn a variety of fun stitches. We will work through several simple, textured stitches that will give the cowl dimension while remaining relaxing and manageable during the retreat.
4. Learn a new construction. While working through the pattern, we will explore this flattering top-down shawl-shaped construction that makes this little cowl special.
SUPPLIES REQUIRED: 400 yards of fingering weight yarn OR 220 yards of DK/Worsted weight yarn. The knitting needles appropriate for your yarn, a tapestry needle, and 4 stitch markers.
Classes are for retreat attendees only. Thank you.
